Troubleshooting documentation.
Below are the most common issues encountered when using Smart Data Generator, along with recommended solutions.
This section covers both standard generators and the Rovo Data Generator.
Installation Issues
App Not Appearing After Installation
Problem: After installing Smart Data Generator, the app doesn't appear in the Jira administration menu.
Solution:
- Refresh your browser and clear cache and cookies
- Log out and log back into Jira
- Check that you have the required permissions
- Wait up to 10 minutes for the app to fully propagate
- Contact your Jira administrator
License Issues
License Shows as UNLICENSED
Problem: The Dashboard indicates that the Smart Data Generator license is UNLICENSED.
Solution:
- Verify that your license is installed in Atlassian Marketplace.
- Refresh the page and wait up to 2 minutes.
- Ensure your billing account is active.
- Reinstall the license if needed.
FREE License Limits Reached
Problem: You see warnings when generating projects, issues, or sprints.
Causes & Solutions:
- FREE version allows:
- 100 projects total, 50 active
- 10,000 issues total
- 1,000 sprints total
- Upgrade to an ACTIVE license for unlimited generation.
Project Selection Issues
Project Lists Appear Empty
Problem: No projects are displayed in one or both project lists.
Possible Causes:
- You do not have permission to create issues in those projects.
- Projects are archived.
- You lack access to projects created by Smart Data Generator.
Solution:
- Verify permissions (Create Issues, Administer Projects).
- Check if projects were archived.
- Confirm you have access to Smart Data Generator–generated projects.
Issues Creation Problems
Cannot Select More Than 20 Projects
Explanation: Issue generation is limited to 20 selected projects per action.
Solution: Reduce selection to 20 or split your generation into several actions.
Issue Limit Reached (1000 Issues Per Project)
Problem: Attempting to generate more than 1000 issues in a single project.
Solution:
Lower the issue count or split the workload into multiple runs.
Comments or Worklogs Exceed Limits
Problem: Attempting to generate more than 10 comments or 10 worklogs per issue.
Solution:
Adjust settings to comply with limits:
- Max 10 comments per issue
- Max 10 worklogs per issue
Global Limit of 10,000 Objects Reached
Problem: Total objects (issues + comments + worklogs) exceed 10,000.
Solution:
Reduce generation volume or decrease comment/worklog count.
Sprints Generation Problems
Cannot Select More Than 20 Boards
Explanation: Maximum number of boards per sprint generation action is 20.
Solution:
Split the generation into multiple actions.
Sprint Limit Reached (20 per Board)
Problem: Attempting to generate more than 20 sprints inside a single board.
Solution:
Lower sprint count for that board.
Issue Limit per Sprint Reached (20 Issues per Sprint)
Problem: Trying to assign more than 20 issues to one sprint.
Solution:
Adjust settings to stay within the limit.
Sprint Status Distribution Not Applying Correctly
Problem: Sprint status ratios appear incorrect.
Explanation:
Ensure all three statuses are included:
- Future
- Active
- Closed
If a status ratio is missing, the generator attempts to redistribute automatically.
Advanced Issues Generation Problems
Must Select Exactly One Project
Problem: Multiple projects selected or no project selected.
Solution:
Advanced Issues Generation works only with one project.
Choose exactly one from the two lists:
- Existing Jira Projects
- Smart Data Generator Projects
Status Distribution Not Matching
Problem: Status distribution percentages do not match output.
Explanation:
Statuses are distributed per Issue Type, not globally.
Solution:
Check configuration for each Issue Type individually.
Rovo Data Generator Problems
Cannot Generate Issues in Multiple Projects
Problem: User attempts to target several projects in one prompt.
Explanation:
Rovo supports generation into only one project per action.
Solution:
Run separate prompts for each target project.
Rovo Does Not Create Comments or Worklogs
Explanation:
Rovo can generate issues only.
It does not support:
- comments
- worklogs
- sprints
- projects
Rovo Ignored Part of My Prompt
Possible Causes:
- Prompt requested unsupported actions (e.g., comments, worklogs).
- Prompt exceeded limits (max 20 issues per request).
Solution:
Rewrite the prompt to focus solely on issue creation within supported limits.
Rovo Not Responding
Possible Causes:
- Agent Data Generator was not selected.
- Permissions missing in the target project.
Solution:
- Select Data Generator from the agent list.
- Ensure you can create issues in the selected project.
- Retry the prompt.
Performance Issues
Slow Generation
Solution:
- Reduce generation volume (projects, issues, comments, worklogs, sprints).
- Avoid hitting upper limits.
- Run during off-peak hours.
- Split operations into smaller batches.
Deleting Objects
Objects Not Deleting
Possible Causes:
- User lacks permission to delete issues or sprints.
- Objects were not generated by Smart Data Generator.
Solution:
- Confirm permissions.
- Verify the objects originate from a Smart Data Generator action.
- Try deleting by "Action" from Activity Stream.
Getting Additional Help
If problems persist:
- Check the Activity Stream for errors in the generation run.
- Review Dashboard limits to ensure constraints were not exceeded.
- Verify license status (FREE / ACTIVE / UNLICENSED).
