Quick Start documentation.

Prerequisites

Before you get started with Depencency Governance, make sure you’ve got:


Installation Steps

Step 1: Head to the Atlassian Marketplace

  1. Open the Atlassian Marketplace.
  2. Search for Depencency Governance for Jira or just jump straight to the Depencency Governance for Jira page.
  3. Click the app to check out the details.

Step 2: Install the App

  1. Hit “Try it free” to kick off the installation.
  2. Pick your Jira Cloud site from the dropdown (log in if you’re not already).
  3. Review the permissions and click “Accept & install”.
  4. Relax for a minute while the app installs (usually 1–2 minutes).

Step 3: Make Sure It’s Installed

  1. On admin.atlassian.com for your organization go to AppsPlatform experiencesSites → Choose the right Site → Connected apps.
  2. Look for Depencency Governance for Jira in the User-installed apps list.
  3. Double-check that the status shows as Enabled.

Post-Installation Setup

Step 1: Opening the App

After installation, you’ll find Depencency Governance for Jira here:

  1. Go to Jira SettingsApps
  2. In the sidebar, click Depencency Governance for Jira
  3. The Depencency Governance Configuration will load up

Step 2: Configure Your First Link Rules

Once the app is installed, you can quickly verify how Depencency Governance controls work item links.

  1. In the left-hand menu, go to Link Schemes.
  2. Click on Default Link Scheme.
  3. From the list of available work item links, disable a few link types of your choice by toggling the Status switch.
  4. Click Save to persist your changes.

Step 3: Assign the Link Scheme to a Space

  1. In the left-hand menu, go to Work Type Link Schemes.
  2. Click Assign.
  3. From the list of available spaces, select the space where you want to test link control.
  4. Click Assign to confirm.
    The selected space is now using the configured link restrictions.

Step 4: Verify Link Control on an Work Item

  1. Open any work item in the space you just assigned.
  2. From the App Actions menu, select Dependencies.
  3. A new panel called Dependencies will appear below the work item details.
  4. In the panel, click the “+” button.
  5. A selector with available link types and an work item search field will appear.
