Quick Start documentation.

Prerequisites

Before you get started with Smart Data Generator, make sure you’ve got:

A Jira Cloud site you can manage
An Atlassian account with the right license
Jira Admin permissions or higher (System Admin, Org Admin) — required to access the Admin page and manage app settings

Installation Steps

Step 1: Open Manage Apps in Jira

In your Jira instance, hover over the gear icon (⚙) in the top-right corner.
From the dropdown, select Marketplace Apps.
A prompt will appear — click "Take me there" to proceed to the Manage Apps page.
Find Smart Data Generator for Jira in the Atlassian Marketplace and click "Try it free" to install it.

Step 2: Install the App

Hit “Try it free” to kick off the installation.
Pick your Jira Cloud site from the dropdown (log in if you’re not already).
Review the permissions and click “Accept & install”.
Relax for a minute while the app installs (usually 1–2 minutes).

Step 3: Make Sure It’s Installed

Hover over the gear icon (⚙) in the top-right corner and select Marketplace Apps, then click “Take me there”.
Look for Smart Data Generator for Jira in the apps list.
If the app appears on the list, it is installed and active — there is no separate “Enabled” status in the current version of Manage Apps.

Post-Installation Setup

Opening the App

After installation, you’ll find Smart Data Generator here:

Hover over the gear icon (⚙) in the top-right corner and select Marketplace Apps.
In the sidebar, click Smart Data Generator
The App Dashboard will load up

Spin Up Your First Projects

Head over to the Generate Projects element in left menu of the app.
Scroll to the Business Company-managed field at the right bottom of Projects section and enter how many projects you want to create.
Set a Prefix — e.g. NEW, or whatever works for you.
Click Generate Projects and watch the magic happen.
