Troubleshooting documentation.
This section helps diagnose and resolve common issues when using Depencency Governance for Jira.
Quick Checks
Before diving deeper, verify the following:
- Is the correct Work Type Link Scheme assigned to the space?
- Are Link Schemes configured correctly?
- Does the selected link type pass validation on both sides?
Common Checks
Before investigating further, verify the following:
Configuration
- Ensure that Link Schemes are properly defined
- Verify that Work Type Link Schemes are assigned to the correct spaces
- Check if the correct Field Schemes are applied
- Confirm that configuration changes were applied as expected
Work Types
- Ensure that the Work Type is correctly configured in the Work Type Link Scheme
- Verify that the expected Link Scheme is assigned to the Work Type
- Check if the Work Type inherits from the default configuration
Permissions
- Verify that users have permission to:
- View work items
- Create links
- Edit fields (if applicable)
Link Availability
If a link type is missing or cannot be selected:
- Check if the link type is enabled in the Link Scheme
- Verify that the link is allowed:
- for the source work item (outward)
- for the target work item (inward)
- Confirm that the Work Type configuration allows the link
Dependencies Panel
If work items are not visible or selectable:
- Check Work Items Searcher settings in Configuration
- Verify if:
- items are filtered out
- items are disabled (greyed out) due to validation rules
- Confirm that Work Types allow the selected link
Field Visibility and Editing
If fields are missing or cannot be edited:
- Verify that the field is included in the Field Scheme
- Check if the field is configured for the Work Type
- Confirm that:
- the field supports editing
- the user has sufficient permissions
Invalid Links
If links appear invalid or highlighted:
- Check if the link type is allowed in current configuration
- Review:
- Link Schemes
- Work Type Link Schemes
- Use:
- Invalid Work Item Links Report to identify work items
- Invalid Work Item Links Chart to analyze trends
Links Enforcer
If notifications appear after creating links:
- Verify if Links Enforcer is enabled in Configuration
- Check if the link violates current rules
- Use available actions:
- Remove
- Update
Audit Log
If behavior is unexpected:
- Check Audit Log for recent changes
- Identify:
- who made the change
- what was modified
- when it occurred
Typical Problems
Link type is not available
- Check if the link type is enabled in the Link Scheme
- Verify that both work items allow the link
Work item is visible but cannot be selected
- The item does not pass validation rules
- It is shown as disabled (greyed out)
Field cannot be edited
- Field may be read-only
- Check Field Scheme and permissions
Link is marked as invalid
- Configuration may have changed
- Use:
- Update
- Remove
- Invalid Issue Links Report
Best Practices
- Define Link Schemes before assigning them
- Test configuration changes on selected spaces
- Use reports after major configuration updates
- Monitor changes using Audit Log
Known Limitations
- Link validation depends on current configuration and may not reflect historical rules
- Existing invalid links are not automatically corrected
- Some actions (e.g., link removal) are executed immediately without confirmation
- Field editability depends on Jira field configuration and permissions
- UI behavior may vary depending on the context (issue view vs other views)
Performance Considerations
- Large numbers of links may affect panel performance
- Bulk operations may take time depending on volume
- Filters and search results may impact response time
